Scott Boyer is an immigration attorney at Ellis Porter who focuses on employment-based immigration for healthcare professionals and the organizations that employ them. He advises clients on nonimmigrant visa options, including H-1B, TN, E-3, J-1, and F-1 matters; clinical-service J-1 waivers; and permanent-residence options such as Schedule A I-140 petitions and Physician National Interest Waivers. His clients include physicians, nurses, medical technologists, and organizations in healthcare, biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.

Scott is known for an approachable, practical style. He explains complex requirements in clear terms, considers each client’s individual circumstances, and works to identify thoughtful solutions when challenges arise. Before joining Ellis Porter, Scott worked at an immigration firm serving information-technology clients and at a nonprofit providing free legal services to migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Michigan.

His interest in immigration law began with his study of Spanish and the barriers many immigrant communities face. His healthcare practice is also personal: his wife, brother, and best friend are physicians, giving him firsthand perspective on the challenges physicians encounter during U.S. training and employment.

Outside of work, Scott enjoys traveling, exercising, tennis, golf, reading, exploring local restaurants and breweries (he has sampled more than 2,500 different beers), and spending time with his family.
