Ellis Porter Supports #GivingTuesdayNow

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that takes place today as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

People can show their generosity in a variety of ways to participate in #GivingTuesdayNow–whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts.

On #GivingTuesdayNow, Ellis Porter is making donations to the Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center in Southwest Detroit and to undocumented families throughout Southeast Michigan to help address both the public health and economic impacts of COVID-19.

Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center, which turns 50 this year, is a community-based, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Southwest Detroit that provides care to medically-underserved populations. CHASS serves close to 11,000 patients a year, 70 percent of whom are Spanish speaking.

CHASS is working tirelessly on front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic to help keep members of this vulnerable community safe, healthy and educated.

Support Southeast Michigan Undocumented Families

Organized by a group of immigrant friends who have done immigrant justice work in Michigan communities for many years, the Support Southeast Michigan Undocumented Families GoFundMe fundraiser is a grass-roots fundraising project to support undocumented families in the Metro Detroit area who find themselves without income to sustain their families during this crisis.

Many undocumented families live day to day, and are not eligible for the many safety nets available to U.S. citizens (like unemployment and medicaid) despite the valuable contributions they make to our economy. All funds raised will be donated based on a referral system via religious institutions, non-profit organizations, and community leaders who refer families for support.
