US Department of State Announces Suspension of Routine Visa Services at All US Embassies and Consulates Worldwide

Effective immediately, the US Department of State (DOS) is temporarily suspending routine nonimmigrant and immigrant visa services at all US Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Emergency visa services will continue to be provided as resources allow. Services to US citizens will also continue to be available. This announcement does not affect the Visa Waiver Program.

Individuals with emergency travel needs should visit the website for the appropriate US Embassy for guidance on how to request an emergency appointment.

DOS advised that US Embassies and Consulates will resume routine visa services as soon as possible, but they did provide a specific date when they anticipate that will be.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of the travel alert issued by DOS yesterday, urging Americans not to go abroad under any circumstances and to return home if they are already abroad unless they plan to remain overseas.
